Peeling and splitting can make otherwise healthy-looking nails feel weak. Nails face water, soap, cleaning products, friction, and repeated wet-to-dry cycles every day. When washing dishes or using strong cleaning products, wear suitable gloves and dry your hands properly afterward. Apply hand cream after washing and massage a little around the cuticles. Do not use nails to open cans, scrape labels, or pry objects because repeated pressure can create splits. If a corner starts peeling, do not pull it; smooth it gently with a fine file. Keep nails at a manageable length while damaged areas grow out. If splitting is persistent, painful, or accompanied by major changes in color or texture, consider professional medical advice.
