You do not need a complicated setup to enjoy a neat manicure at home. A few clean tools and a little patience can create a simple grooming routine.
1. Prepare your space
Clean the surface where you will work and gather a nail clipper, file, hand moisturizer, and your chosen polish if you plan to use it.
2. Clean your hands
Wash your hands and remove old polish. Dry them before shaping the nails.
3. Shape the edges
Trim only if the nails are longer than you want. Then use a file to smooth rough edges and create a consistent shape.
4. Care for the cuticle area
Do not aggressively cut or push the cuticle. Instead, keep the surrounding skin moisturized and handle the area gently.
5. Moisturize
Massage a small amount of hand or nail moisturizer over the nails and surrounding skin. If you plan to apply polish, remove excess oil from the nail surface first.
6. Apply polish in thin layers
If using polish, apply a thin coat and allow it to settle before adding another. Thin layers are generally easier to control than one very thick coat.
7. Finish neatly
Let the manicure dry according to the product instructions. Avoid immediately doing tasks that could dent the polish.
Keep it simple
A good home manicure is mostly about clean tools, gentle handling, and regular maintenance. You can improve your technique over time without buying a large collection of products.
